About the
Association
Established in 1962 as the
Municipal Police Authorities, the Ontario Association of Police Services
Boards leads the way to "Excellence in Civilian Police Governance".
The OAPSB is a non-profit association
providing a wide variety of services designed to assist police services
boards in discharging their duties of governance and oversight with the
highest degree of integrity and with all the knowledge required.
Dedicated to the concept that
policing contributes to the quality of life in the community and that
civilian governance insures professionalism in policing, the OAPSB provides
timely communication, important information, representation, education,
co-ordination, networking and expertise tailored to enhance the capacity
of individual boards and board members.
As the voice of police services
boards to government, the OAPSB provides advocacy and timely communication
of police services boards' issues and concerns. The OAPSB's ongoing mission
is to inform and enlighten those in government responsible for policing
in Ontario so that they may better understand the governance perspective.
The OAPSB also facilitates the speedy flow of important information from
government to boards.
Policing is changing and adapting
as challenges and issues emerge in communities. The OAPSB helps police
services boards to grow and develop with these challenges. The OAPSB works
with its members to keep its finger on the pulse of policing throughout
the province.
A unified voice is a strong
voice. Your Board's membership in the OAPSB ensures strength and continuity
in civilian police governance in Ontario.
