Peter J. Marshall Innovative Awards Competition

Municipal governments continue to be leaders in providing services to their communities in new and innovative ways. The times beg creativity and municipalities are meeting the challenges.

The Peter J. Marshall Municipal Innovative Awards acknowledges this. It honours municipal governments that demonstrate excellence in the use of innovative approaches, alternative service delivery initiatives, and partnerships to improve capital and/or operating efficiency in the delivery of municipal programs and services.

This is an annual award. Each year the deadline is mid-June.

How to Apply:
Application forms are available from AMO's Municom subscriber web site, (www.municom.com) or from AMO's public web site at www.amo.on.ca.

Eligible Projects:
Eligible projects are those that demonstrate an innovative approach to the delivery or provision of a municipal service. Additionally, projects need to provide tangible benefits to community residents such as cost savings to taxpayers; the provision of service improvements and local job creation; improved efficiency and effectiveness of public service delivery; effective allocation of performance responsibilities and risks between various partners; and, effective use of non-traditional sources of revenues or financing.

Eligible initiatives include partnership and alternative service delivery initiatives related to capital projects and maintenance programs for such services as, transit, waste disposal, roads, water and wastewater systems, technology solutions, community service facilities and municipal management innovations and other significant operating or service initiatives. Projects will be considered eligible for the award where the initiative has predominately been undertaken during the preceding 18 months.

This award presents an excellent opportunity for municipalities to showcase their initiatives to their constituents and to other jurisdictions. Award winners will have the right to use the designation on all stationery and publications. Each year the winners are announced at the AMO Conference in August.

The awards program is jointly sponsored by the Association of Municipalities of Ontario, the Association of Municipal Managers, Clerks and Treasurers, the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing, the Municipal Finance Officers' Association, the Ontario Municipal Administrators Association and the Canadian Council for Public Private Partnerships.
