Funding Update Safer and Vital Communities Grant During Crime Prevention Week, the ministry highlighted its Safer and Vital Communities (SVC) Grant. This grant encourages partnership development and provides one-time funding for community initiatives to prevent/reduce crime. The SVC Grant is open to community-based, not-for-profit, incorporated organizations and First Nations Band Councils and targets serious crimes such as violence against seniors, youth crime, guns and gangs, domestic abuse, child pornography and Internet luring. As experts in policing, you can help local communities identify ways to take advantage of this grant by focusing on strategies such as: anti-bullying, education, mentoring, drug awareness and recreational opportunities for youth. Although police services are not eligible for this grant, their support is an integral component of the grant criteria. Applicants are required to provide a police letter of support for their project proposal. Police Services that are aware of agencies and organizations that may meet the eligibility criteria, should direct them to this grant funding.
