History of Colonel A. A. Wallace Award

Proposal

Initiated by Municipal Police Authorities in 1983 to present, an award in memory of Colonel Art Wallace to the recruit student most proficient in academic achievement (in cases of a tie, physical training would be considered). The presentation, given to a still-serving officer, would be made by a member of the MPA (OAPSB).

Colonel A. A. Wallace

A native of Pembroke, he was elected to the executive of OAPSB in 1973, to vice-president in 1975, to president in 1976 and in 1977, and served from 1978 to 1982 inclusive on the executive as a past president.

Previous to his OAPSB and political duties, he had a long and distinguished military career that dated back to 1928, and except for a short period with the Midland Regiment, he served with the L & R throughout the war. On his retirement from the militia in 1958, he entered municipal politics and was councillor from 1948 to 1957, elected Mayor of Pembroke and held that office for two years. He was the deputy local registrar of the Supreme Court of Ontario at Pembroke, appointed Honorary Lieutenant Colonel of the Lanark and Renfrew Scottish Regiment and was a former commanding officer of the L & R Scottish Regiment.
